It has been said before, so we feel ok saying it again, the game just comes naturally to 2018 UNC commit Coby White. More so scoring comes incredibly easy for White.

Only a junior, White has already scored right at 2,500 career points at Greenfield School in Wilson, North Carolina. If he were a public school player he would be well on track to surpass JamesOn Curry’s all-time scoring record of 3,307 points. Considering that the likes of Brandon Ingram, Antawn Jamison, David West, Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Dominique Wilkins, Jerry Stackhouse and so many others played NCHSAA ball in North Carolina, this is quite an accomplishment.

White is a two time alum of the prestigious North Carolina Top 80 exposure camp. This camp puts the top players from the state of North Carolina, under one roof and has them compete against one another. After his performance during his freshman year, we wrote, Coby White is a highly effective scoring guard that has tremendous range and a soft shooting touch. Coby rebounds well for his position and already possesses a college frame, although he could use more strength like most high school underclassmen. The next step in his development is to become quicker laterally especially on the defensive side of the ball and to understand team defensive principals which will happen over time. That being said, Coby White is definitely one to put in your SIM CARD.”

White is already ranked as the 33rd prospect in the 2018 class by ESPN. He has already received an offer and committed to his dream school, the University of North Carolina. Rightfully so, last season, during his sophomore year, White scored 960 total points. That point total would have been good for 4th all-time on the North Carolina public school single season scoring list. Already this year, Greenfield School has one or two games left, White has scored 1,039 total points. That 1,039 point total would have been second all-time on the North Carolina public school single season scoring list, trailing only Darius McGhee’s 1,054 he scored last year.

Being that Curry played in the NCSHAA league (public school) and White is in the NCISAA league (private school) White’s record will not break Curry’s, but it is impressive never the less.

White is a standout in every event he plays in, that includes Phenom’s Joe Miller Invitational this season. After his performance in this event we wrote, The 6-foot-3 UNC commit is a pure scorer who was in the conversation this past weekend for being the best player. In his first game, against Washington signee Blake Harris, he scored 29 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, had 3 assists, and blocked 2 shots. On the second day, he had 28 points, 12 boards, and 2 assists against Kinston. In his third appearance, he finished with 30 points and 5 rebounds against New Hanover and finally on the last day, he had another 30-point game as he played Virginia Academy. White’s natural ability to score the ball on three levels is unbelievable. When his shot is not falling, he does a great job of driving to the basket to draw the foul or finish through contact. White is very elite in transition as he is one of, if not the best, finishers around the basket in the event. Also, White’s passing ability is sometimes overlooked because of his scoring tactics. Roy Williams and UNC staff should be looking forward to working with the combo guard in the future.”

During our viewing of White on Saturday, he finished with a typical Coby White performance. In the quarter-final state playoff win, White finished with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. However, it was how he went about those gaudy scoring numbers that was so Coby-esque. White was 10-16 from the field and 13-16 from the free throw line. He scored at every level with consistency and there was no doubt in the gym, he was an elite ball player.

UNC fans, you will enjoy this one.
