Coaches – Butkus is a Division 1 point guard who will be playing with the WNC Big Cats this April

Butkus can run a team and that much is for certain. He has the ball skills, the swagger and the vision that makes everyone around him better. In fact, we have seen Butkus 3 times over the past month, and in each setting all of the scouts in attendance walked away raving over Butkus's game.

Former NJIT point guard Teddy Schikel coached Butkus at the recent NC Phenom 150 exposure camp, this is what he said after coaching him the entire day,''Tomas was a great communicator throughout the whole camp and he was a pleasure to coach. He's an excellent passer with a great feel for the game and his high IQ is evident. Tomas sees the floor quite well; he's able to penetrate and create for himself or others. Defensively, he was solid on and off-ball, and proved to be a quality rebounder for his position. Once he adds some more consistency on his outside shot, he'll be dangerous; Tomas was the best player I saw.'

Butkus is a junior at Rabun Gap-Nacoochie High School in Rabun Gap, Georgia. Rabun Gap-Nacoochie is tucked away in the north eastern most part of Georgia. So far northeast that they, in fact, play in the North Carolina Independent School Association. Butkus himself, has made quite the trip to get to where he is.

He was born in Lithuania where he stayed until high school. He then moved to Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank, California. He stayed in Burbank for a year and a half until a coaching change was made. Butkus found his way to Rabun Gap-Nacoochie School last year. Even though he showed up later to the school and didn't have much training with the team, he still proceeded to average 13.5 points, 4 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this year.

Fast forward to the Spring NC Phenom 150 Exposure camp. Butkus had a coming out party. All across the board the scouts were talking about him. National Analyst Jamie Shaw wrote,''6'3' point guard Tomas Butkus has incredible feel. Deep range and an incredible passer.''At the same event National Analyst Patrick Obrien wrote,''2018 Tomas Butkus is flat out all over the place, on both ends of the floor. He is showing a full arsenal of scoring ability.'

Butkus performance was so strong at the NC Phenom 150 camp we had to invite him to the North Carolina Top 80. We needed to see how he fared against the top prospects in the entire state. After his performance in that event there was nothing but praise to lay upon him, we wrote,''Butkus has great size for his point guard position, but it is his feel for the game that sets him apart. He is a great passer as he sees the floor at a high level. Butkus also shoots the ball very well. He gets his team mates involved and is able to get his. Very good point guard prospect.'

As you can see, Butkus is a high motor very skilled point guard. He does not turn the ball over and he delivers pin point passes all over the floor to streaking players at the basket. Butkus can shoot the ball with range and he also has a penchant for the flair. In fact, for one pass at the Phenom Opening, he threw and alley-oop by bouncing the ball off the floor and delivering it perfectly to his team mate at the rim for the dunk. He is a guy that everyone loves playing with.

Academically, Butkus is qualified grades wise. Athletically he is a sure fire Division 1 basketball prospect. With his travels not many schools have seen him. There is no doubt that once they do, he will start to become a very popular name. Butkus makes a team better.
