6'2 2021 Walter Ghaffar, 'Athleticism, Hustle and Motor'

6'2 rising senior Walter Ghaffar is no stranger to Phenom Hoops. We've seen him countless times, whether it is camp setting, travel ball or in a high school setting. Each time, we come away impressed. One thing is crystal clear, Ghaffar is always going to give you maximum effort. It's in his DNA. He has athleticism, and a big-time motor and is known for his hustle.

In speaking with his high school coach, Jeff Davis (Cleveland HS) He had the following to say. 'Walt is a 6'2 guard who can play with the ball or off the ball. He has elite level athleticism. He is very fast with the ball in his hand, and is dangerous, finishing on the break. Walt is also a solid 38% 3-point shooter and 72% free throw shooter. His athletic ability and motor give him the potential to be a lock down defender at the collegiate level. Walt also led the team in steals, and is also a very good rebounder from the guard position. He led us in scoring with 13.5 PPG as a junior. He was team MVP, All Conference, All County and All Area. Walt is constantly working on his game as well as his fitness. He has a tremendous family and support system and has a chance to be an excellent college player.'

During the 2018-19 season, Ghaffar was instrumental in leading Fayetteville Academy to a NCISAA state championship. In speaking with head coach Bill Boyette, he stated the following. ” Walt was an integral par of our state championship team. He plays the game of basketball with a true passion! He plays every possession on both ends of the floor, certainly a coaches dream. What stands out most to me is Walter’s work ethic. Whether on the court or in the weight room, the effort is ALWAYS there. He sets an example for his teammates with his passion and work ethic. Walter is so athletic. He is fast, quick and can jump out of the gym. He was a pleasure to coach.”

Ghaffar has played several Phenom camps and we have continued to make a lasting impression. At our last camp, we stated the following. 'He's a long, athletic, skilled prospect that knows how to naturally make hustle plays on both ends of the floor. Ghaffar scored the ball efficiently from all three levels but stood out more with his defense and incredible rebounding instincts. Next in his development process is working to tighten his handle, as it would make him a more lethal offensive threat.

Coach Bernardi on Ghaffar: 'Walter has one thing that absolutely jumps off the page, his effort. He plays as hard as he can on every single possession on both sides of the ball. He is a great rebounder that gets multiple possessions with loose balls and stops transition attacks from the opposing team with his hustle back. His jumper was a pleasant surprise, as he made a few jumpers from three-point territory and in the midrange. Walter must take better care of the ball, make reads, and let the game come to him more. He also can improve his left hand.' Ghaffar was spectacular at camp, securing the Mr. Hustle award in dominant fashion, and should have an extremely productive season.'
