Immanuel Bates first walked into our NC Phenom 150 exposure camp 2 years ago. He was long, naturally athletic and had touch, very intriguing but unsure of himself. Manny Bates, walked into UNC Pembroke's team camp on Thursday as a confident post player, an intimidating force on the block.

After that first camp in November of 2015, the first time anyone had really seen him, we wrote,''Bates is definitely one to put in the memory bank and your SIM CARD. What you see currently is not the finished product. That being said, Bates has unlimited upside and potential. He's extremely long and sports an enormous 7'3 wingspan that is accompanied with an equal impressive attitude. Coach Praeger stated, 'Bates is an unselfish player. His attitude and interest in learning the game will serve him well in his development.' More importantly, Bates has solid athleticism and plays above the rim. He has passer friendly hands and is also a willing passer out of the post.'

Manny Bates has experienced quite the blow up over the past few months. He is currently being talked about among the nation's top 150 prospects and carries an offer list that shows that. He has always had good timing, but now he has great patience. He blocks shots under control. Bates says he watches a lot of film on Hassan Whiteside as he likens himself to the current Miami Heat center.

Recently Bates has taken visits to Clemson, UConn and Georgia Tech (all offers) and he has planned visits coming with Virginia Tech and Depaul. While he is approaching 20 offers, he says Georgia Tech, Clemson, UConn, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Virginia Tech and Depaul offers are standing out to him. He has the likes of NC State, LSU and Louisville monitoring closely in July.

Bates' game is expanding on offense as well. He has added a nice 18 foot jump shot to his arsenal. Gone are the days where he is just rim diving and dunking dump off passes. Northwood Temple was able to put him at the high post and run some cutters off of him as well as having him knock that shot down. He's a new player, and getting better by the day.

Bates has had continued progression over the last two years. After seeing him in an open gym last year we wrote,''Bates has come a long way since he burst onto the scene at last Fall's NC Phenom 150 camp. His confidence is sky rocketing and his skill set is catching up. Blessed with a wing span in the 7'3' range, Bates has natural timing and touch. Although skinny he has feel on both ends. The upside is big here.'

Bates will continue to get better as his best basketball is clearly ahead of him. Watch the progression.
