Phenom Hoops recently spoke with one of the top prospects in the country for the class of 2025 in 6’3 Trey McKenney, as he was racking up some early offers.  Now, the season has started at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, they are off to a 4-0 start and it seems McKenney continues to attract the eyes of college coaches, as he secured two new offers and more are showing interest.  We spoke to him about all the latest.

We first talked to McKenney back in August, as you can check out the article here: Already racking in big-time offers: 2025 6’3 Trey McKenney

Only a freshman, McKenney is quickly racking up the big offers and just added two new offers from Michigan and Illinois, as he spoke more about them.  Phenom Hoops first spoke to him about the offer from the Wolverines.

“I mean, I love Michigan,” he said about the offer.  “I grew up watching the Trey Burke days and it was exciting to hear it.  I love their system, it’s very open and free, so yeah, I liked that offer.”  McKenney also recently took a visit to Michigan as well during their first football game.  He came away really impressed with the atmosphere there, while also getting a chance to watch a practice and tour the facilities.

The Michigan offer is certainly a big one, not only because of the name but also having a chance to stay at home and play in his hometown state.

“It means a lot because it isn’t often that kids from here in Flint get offered by Michigan, especially on the basketball side,” he replied.

McKenney also spoke about his other Big Ten offer from Illinois, one that he received back in November.

“Yes, it is close and I love the way they play,” he said.

The freshman has now racked up offers from Michigan, Illinois, Eastern Michigan, TCU, Texas, Temple, and DePaul, but he could be adding to that list as well.  McKenney also made a visit to Michigan State and the staff seems to be on him hard.

“I loved it there,” McKenney said about his visit to Michigan State back in October.  “The fans are crazy and they love basketball, so it is great.  They (the coaching staff) come to most of my games, so the relationship is there.  They talk to my coach more.”

McKenney also mentioned that he has received interest as well from Iowa State and as of right now, he will be making another visit to Michigan on Jan. 26 for a basketball game.
