Scrolling back to November during Phenom Hoops’ Jamboree Bash in Rock Hill, we had the chance to watch Speights Academy in action, and boy, were we intrigued with the talent that they brought to the court. One player that was off the charts the entire weekend was 2022 6’8 David Dixon. He was a target for schools before but unfortunately, faced an injury that sidelined him for quite some time and things fell quiet.

Now, he is back on the floor and has been producing once again, which is why the schools that have been sticking with him and now recruiting him, it could pay off in a big way with this forward that can produce. Before diving into more of the latest with Dixon, check out what was said back in November by our staff at Phenom Hoops.

What Was Said:

“Speights Academy was a new program coming up to SC and they certainly impressed, something you will read about later in this article. But Dixon, as this was our first viewing of the forward, was incredibly impressive throughout the weekend. We are talking about a 6'8 worker down in the post; a forward that has really good instincts for the ball, attacking the boards, and scored with either hand and great touch. Dixon has a tremendous motor on the floor and seemed to be everywhere around the paint, making plays. Was really impressed with this young man and college coaches should be taking notice.”

“2022 6’8 David Dixon is an absolute monster down low. So active, gets his hands on everything, has a tremendous motor, and finishes extremely well around the basket. College programs need to look his way!” – Patrick O’Brien

“6’8 2022 David Dixon (Speights Academy) has showcased the ability to get it done on multiple spots on the court. Catch & shoot 3. Strong drive. Tough finisher in the paint. Just caught a body off the drop step.” – Colby Lewis

Latest with Dixon:

Playing with Speights Academy has really helped him get back to where he was before and he has been putting in the work. And now having the opportunity to play, Dixon is loving that he can showcase his game on the hardwood.

“It feels great,” Dixon told Phenom Hoops. “It is an amazing feeling playing the game I love after all, especially after sitting out all this time.”

“To not take opportunities for granted,” Dixon continued when asked what he took away while being sidelined. “Being out has shown me that nothing is guaranteed, so be grateful for every chance I get to be on the court and not take it for granted.”

Right now, Dixon is holding offers from Morehead State, Jacksonville State, and Georgia State but schools like Youngstown State, Iona, and Albany have expressed interest his way according to Dixon.

Dixon has plans on visiting Morehead State in February and he hopes to make his commitment sometime in March. And from what we saw on the court, a program is going to get a workhorse on the court and should only make their team better as he continues to develop.
