What a weekend it was at the Select 60 Showcase, as talent from all around the region came to Harding to compete and showcase their talent. With a variety of ages on the court, there were plenty of young rising prospects that grabbed our attention, and 2028 JaKaila Gaskin was certainly one of them.

Again, only a player going into eighth grade, Gaskin has a lot to offer and yet there is still so much potential in her game as she gets older.  What certainly stands out quickly is her size at her age, standing at 6’3 and towering over many opponents on the court.

Gaskin was able to give you those flashes that you look for in a player that is still so young. She runs rim to rim, knows how to use her size and be a true big, has solid hands and touch around the basket, and knows how to be a difference-maker on both sides of the court.  She moves well without the ball, is active on the glass, and Gaskin should only continue to add more to her game as she gets stronger and older.

There is no doubt about it, she is going to be a name you hear about a lot more here in North Carolina, and college programs are already jumping on board.  She already holds offers from UNCW, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, and South Carolina State, but that list should only continue to grow in a big way in the coming years.
