The Phenom Winter Nationals brought a slew of new names and young talent that we are eager to watch grow and develop over the coming years.  Most of these players are either finishing up middle school or are fully still in middle school, but one can’t deny that there is talent to start tracking now.

A player that we were eager to see again was 2028 6’6 Flory Kuminga, a player that we introduced back in 2023 as one to watch and he has only continued to develop. Back at the Summer Finale in 2023, we had this to say:

“2028 Flory Kuminga: First time getting a chance to watch Kuminga, there were flashes that you had to like with his young prospect. Coming over from California a few days before, he could be a name to watch for around the region. The younger brother of Jonathan Kuminga, Flory is a 6’4 prospect who has a good feel for the game at his age. He looks comfortable in his release, moves well, has good hands and is active on the boards, finds ways to create for himself, and has a big strong frame to go along with it.’ With his background and the early flashes we saw, Kuminga should quickly get on your radar.”

Fast forward to the Phenom Winter Nationals, he looks bigger, stronger, and has more fluidity in his game but yet still just scratching the surface of what he could be at the end. Kuminga brings a sturdy 6’6 frame to the court and is physically mature for his age. He uses that to his advantage, battling through defenders and finishing strong at times. But he also shows that he has a feel for making shots from the perimeter. Whether he is finishing above the rim, out in transition, knocking down shots, or overpowering opponents in other ways, Kuminga brings a lot to the table.
