Lady Phenom went out to Raleigh over the weekend to check out the Deep South Classic, as teams from all over came to compete and we got a great chance to learn new talent. Here, we will dive into players that we saw and impressed at the event.
A player that we have had an opportunity to watch on a few occasions, including the Lady Top 80 was 2027 Lila Kelly from Forsyth Country Day and Winston-Salem Stealers. At the Deep South Classic, she was able to flourish in a variety of ways on the court and we continue to believe that she is a talent that deserves more looks in the coming years.
Kelly has a lot to offer with her game, as she presents issues with her skillset and size. Kelly can score from all three levels and really fill up the stat sheet. She is comfortable in using her size to score inside and create, but has terrific range in knocking down shots from outside. But outside her scoring impact, Kelly is able to make plays in a variety of other ways, whether it being a force on the boards, a playmaker for others, and a leader for her team. She is a smart, high-motor type prospect that has flourished in a variety of settings and she only continued that in Raleigh.
Top 80 Evaluation:
“She’s a smart, skilled, high-motor forward/post prospect who already possesses an excellent nose for the ball. Kelly is a quality finisher and perimeter shooter with an understanding of how to take what the defense is giving her. She rebounds at a high volume, passes well for her size, and runs the floor well in transition. Kelly defends the post effectively and blocks shots on a regular basis. Coach Dillard on Kelly: “Lila is very coachable. She offers great hustle and displays a really good feel for the game. Lila shoots the ball well and is very active as a defender. She’s a rebounding machine who boxes out and uses her length around the basket. Going forward, I would like to see her work on having a next-play mentality and not worrying about a miscue on the previous possession.” Kelly made a lasting impression during her time at camp and will be one to monitor over the foreseeable future.”
