Player: Amayah Barnes
Class: 2027
School: NC GBB
The Lady Top 80 was a tremendous success overall, as some of the top talent around the state showed up and competed against the best. Several players walked away impressing our scouts, but one of the top players from the camp had to have been 2027 guard Amayah Barnes from NC GBB.
Barnes had everyone’s attention with her impact and it is easy to see why schools have already offered but also believe even more schools should be joining in on the conversation. Barnes was one of the best two-way prospects at the camp, making an impact all over the floor. Offensively, she is a scrappy, gritty, and aggressive guard who creates extremely well off the bounce. She is at her best when getting downhill, and finishing well but shows to be effective from a variety of other areas on the court; she mixes it up extremely well offensively. But she isn’t just a scorer, showing her IQ and feel for the game, her vision for her teammates, and her motor throughout. Defensively, she showed that she can lock down any opponent and create a ton of havoc for other opponents. She is active, moves her feet well, has active hands, and makes it tough for opponents to get by her. Barnes truly showed that she has the whole package in her game, which should only allow her recruitment to increase quickly.
What Was Said Previously:
“When you talk about her game and her impact, her speed and quickness immediately jumps out in your eyes. She has strong instincts, plays with tremendous poise, strong handles, and show the ability to be a creator for herself or for others. Time after time, she was able to blow by defenders with ease and attack the paint, finishing with touch and through contact. But she shows her comfort level in getting to her spots as well as finding other teammates open. She brings a competitive nature to the court, both offensively and defensively which is something D1 programs will certainly love. From what we saw, she has a lot to offer on the court and is one that I would be tracking earlier rather than later.”
