Myers Park has been a team we have had a chance to watch on multiple occasions this year for Lady Phenom, and when first speaking with Coach Barbara Nelson, she noted that we needed to check out 2027 Amani Barner. She wasn’t lying, as this young freshman has been impressive to start her high school career.
We recently watched Barner at the Title IX Showcase, where Barner put on a show, going for 22 points to lead her team to a big win. Barner is one that has tremendous size at an early age, standing at 5’9 and showing a clear understanding of how to play the game. Barner plays with a ton of confidence, showcasing just how smart and athletic she is in producing on the court. She plays with a ton of energy on both ends, creates well, and can finish inside, but also is confident from the perimeter. She thrives as a strong scoring option and plays with a scrappy feel on both ends, not backing down and competing both offensively and defensively.
Her confidence and feel for the game at her age are impressive, and though she is just starting her story at Myers Park, she clearly has put her name on our “watch list” for the coming years and college coaches should be taking notice early on.
