Phenom Hoops was on deck last week for Oak Hill’s opener against Experience Academy, and there was plenty of talent to go around for college programs for one of the most storied programs in high school basketball. A player that really impressed us and we are excited about watching develop more was 2027 6’7 Howard Williams, one that high-major programs should be looking at early and often.
Here is what we had to say after watching him:
“The youngest prospect on the roster for Oak Hill, Williams flourished and showed his true potential in his overall impact and game. Talking about a player that is still young and developing, Williams brings such versatility both offensively and defensively with his size. He moves well, is active and engaged, and can impact the game in a variety of ways. Williams shows comfort from inside and out, getting to his spots for his pull-up game, but also and make plays inside as well. You also have to like how impactful he can be on the boards, showing that he has great timing and a knack for getting the ball. He can be effective in a variety of areas offensively, shows a strong feel for the game, and finds ways to impact the game in other ways outside of scoring as well.”
This summer, Williams had a very good showing for Meanstreets, averaging nearly 17ppg and 8 rebounds per game. He does a great job in showing his impact in a variety of ways with his 6’7 frame, his ability to guard multiple positions defensively, and his offensive skill set. Williams is able to flourish inside and out, finishing at the rim, making plays off the dribble, and comfortable enough along the perimeter. And that doesn’t mention his knack for getting his hands on the ball of the boards, being nearly a double-double prospect. From what we saw, Williams offers a lot to the table and will continue to develop, which is why high-major programs should be taking notice earlier rather than later.
Right now, Williams holds offers from Illinois, Northern Illinois, and South Carolina State but he has also been hearing from LSU a lot early on. But from what we saw, he is just starting his story and that list should quickly grow with high major programs around the country.
