The USA Club Championships brought a ton of talent from all around the country to Rock Hill (SC) and Phenom Hoops was eager to watch them all on the court. One player that we were excited to watch in action was 2027 6’2 Davion Thompson, a player we introduced not long ago back in May.

When talking to Thompson back in May, we asked him more about how he would describe his game, and he had this to say:
“A 2-way player. Combo guard who plays the right way, can do it on all three levels on the floor, bring defensive intensity, rebound at a high rate for a guard, and lead on and off the court. A coachable player.”
Watching Thompson on the court, Thompson proved that he should be one of the top guards in the upcoming Class of 2027 as the 6’2 prospect plays the game with a terrific feel and understanding, more than many other young prospects. Thompson plays with such composure and feel on the floor, as he plays with terrific pace, plays under control and never gets sped up, and has such a smooth overall feel for the game offensively that he is tough to slow down. When he was leading the offense, he was able to flourish as a playmaker and scorer, making strong plays off the bounce and having terrific touch over defenders. His ability to change speed but also play under control couldn’t be denied, but he was also comfortable in hurting you from a variety of other levels, knocking down pull-ups off the bounce or knocking down shots from behind the arc. Whether he is helping lead the offense or if he is playing off the ball, Thompson has such a calm demeanor on the court, he is comfortable no matter where and he can make plays.
Watching him flourish and lead Meanstreets on the court, it was clear that Thompson is one of the top guards in the country and his recruitment/ranking should back that up. Right now, he holds offers from Tennessee, Wake Forest, Michigan, Iowa, Washington, Illinois, Bryant, and Eastern Illinois. But that list will certainly continue to rise, as he should be targeted by so many college programs around the country.
