2026 6’8 Trey Thompson has been a prospect we have been high on for nearly two years.  Last summer, Thompson shined on the brightest of stages with Phenom Hoops and it was clear that he was a Division I player that was just starting. He only confirmed that this summer once again when we watched him at our events, as we had this to say shortly after:

“Thompson is a player who should AUTOMATICALLY be on so many schools’ radars, and he showed that throughout this weekend. Maybe considered the best big at the event, Thompson showed everything in his arsenal with his game. He has a tremendous skillset overall with a great knowledge and feel for the game, excellent footwork, and such a strong feel around the basket. He is also excellent on the boards, playing with relentless energy and motor. However, what makes him so unique is his ability to stretch the floor with a TON of confidence, knocking down three after three after three with confidence. Thompson can hurt you in so many ways, and though he holds two offers right now, that list should immediately increase this summer and quickly.”

Well, it seems that schools are finally catching on as his stock has only risen since then and schools are looking hard his way. Thompson has added two new offers from Purdue and Xavier, as he talks more about them, how well his summer went, and some upcoming visits he has set up. Check out the latest 1-on-1 with Phenom Hoops.

Phenom: How has everything been going this summer for you' What has it been like and how have you worked on your game'
Thompson: I’ve consistently stayed in the gym getting shots up and I also continued to work on my body and get it in the best shape possible for the events that were happening soon. Summer ball was a success, and we only lost two games out of 36, I believe.

Phenom: What did you hope to show about your game this summer'
Thompson: I wanted to show that I can guard any position on the court and that I can stretch the floor.

Phenom: What are your thoughts on your latest offer from Purdue'
Thompson: Coach Painter and Coach Lusk are great coaches, full of knowledge and love for the game… but for me, it just makes me feel like I need to work harder and harder and keep proving to people that I do belong.

Phenom: What other schools have been saying your way that have offered' And what other schools have been showing strong interest your way'
Thompson: Purdue loves my IQ and the way I play the game. Ohio University loves the way I can stretch the floor and be vocal. Appalachian State loves the fact that I am a knockdown shooter and very talented in the pick-and-pop area. Xavier loves how I vocalize on both ends of the floor, find the mismatches, and also shoot the ball.  Other schools that have been showing strong interest are Clemson, Virginia Tech, Akron, Murray State, Mississippi State, Western Carolina, Tennessee Tech, Liberty, Radford, Belmont, Tennessee, Davidson, and Harvard.

Phenom: Any schools you would like to visit down the road or have set up'
Thompson: Clemson, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Liberty, and Radford. I am also going to a football game at Appalachian State, and I’m looking forward to that. Purdue is also having me up sometime soon.

Phenom: Any dates set yet'
Thompson: August 31st is Appalachian State, and nothing else after that is set.
