The Class of 2026 looks to be an impressive one, and one player that has been earning the attention of schools all around the country already is 2026 6'11 Sam Funches from Germantown High School.   Phenom Hoops introduced Funches over a year ago, as we dug into more of his game, where he excels, and more about his development.

At that time, Funchess had just started seeing recruitment take off. Since then he has added 15+ offers and that trend doesn't seem to be going anywhere.' Schools like NC State, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Georgia Tech, and others have all entered the picture as of late, as we caught up with the rising star to get an update on him.

Phenom: How was everything this summer for you overall'
Funches: It was good. Very busy. I think it was productive against other top players.

Phenom: What were you able to show and take away from a strong summer'
Funches: Just to be confident and believe in my training and that the hard work will pay off.  Now, I'm focusing on speed and agility, so I can be better laterally.

Phenom: What were you wanting to show more this summer as well as develop'
Funches: Really, my overall game. Not just a low post threat. Show that I can make moves on the perimeter and shoot the three.  Get a rebound and push it. I think I did a pretty good job at that. I want to develop more of my handles so I can help out when needed.

Phenom: How have you been taking in everything as far as your recruitment'
Funches: I think I'm handling it well. My parents have been keeping me level-headed and my sister also helps me to focus on other things like making jokes.  But, we are enjoying the process. It is a big help having my dad because he has been through the process.

Phenom: Thoughts on some of the latest schools that have offered, NC State, FSU, etc.'
Funches: I think they are all great programs. They use their bigs, have discipline and value family. It is still very early though.

Phenom: Are there any schools that you want to possibly visit'
Funches: Michigan, Duke, Mississippi State, and NC State are some. There are a lot more. I'm just excited about the journey.

Phenom: Who has been showing interest your way'
Funches: Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Memphis, and UCLA. THey have shown a lot of interest and we are building a relationship. We will see how things go but I’m excited about the opportunity.

Phenom: What is your focus heading into the high school season with your team and individually'
Funches: Taking it one game at a time. Being a better team player and hopefully winning a state tournament. Individually, I just want to do my best and go hard every game.
