We continue to look at players that impressed recently at the USA Club Championships in Rock Hill, SC and one player that captured our eyes was 2026 6’1 Cedric Tomes from D1 Minnesota. Phenom Hoops hadn’t had a chance to watch a lot of Tomes in action, but when we sat down to learn more about his game, Tomes impressed with his overall feel and ability to be a true floor general.
Tomes was able to flourish in a variety of ways; at times, he showed his ability to be a scoring guard, creating well off the dribble, attacking the open spots in the defense, penetrating and getting inside the lane, and showing terrific pace as well as scoring from multiple levels. However, what also impressed me was his true game management. Tomes was able to really flourish as a creator and facilitator, patiently waiting, letting the play develop, and facilitating to his teammates for easy baskets or open shots. He was able to flourish as a playmaker on the court, showing a strong IQ and feel, bringing a balanced attack offensively, and simply understanding how to help run the show on the court.
Tomes holds offers from Drake, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, St. Thomas, and Minnesota, but after watching his game and feel on the court, this is a point guard that should only see his recruitment rise in the coming months. When speaking with Tomes, he mentioned that he has been garnering interest from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Wyoming, St. Louis, Appalachian State, Purdue, Air Force, Montana, and South Dakota.
