Over the summer, plenty of players made their mark on our platform and with college coaches. 2025 MJ Williams (Team Trezz) would be one of those players, landing himself near the top of the list with what we consistently saw at each event. He was electric, crafty, quick, and at times unstoppable with his play and scoring impact, as he has elevated his game.  From what we saw, our very own, Jeffrey Bendel, had this to say back in July.

“Offensively, Williams offers an ideal balance between scoring and playmaking. He utilizes his tight handle, quick first step, and processing ability to get whatever he wants. Williams is a sharp, willing passer but offers such reliable scoring polish that opponents are forced to pick their poison when the ball is in his hands. Whether creating for himself or finding opportunities without the ball, Williams has consistently shown the ability to score the ball at an efficient rate from all levels. It’s truly difficult to point out any real weaknesses in his offensive game. That being said, Williams is equally as effective on defense. At 5-foot-10, he suffocates opposing guards. He mirrors opponents so well that it can be difficult to determine who is actually in control (it’s usually Williams). Williams forces turnovers and stands out as a dependable piece in transition.”

A few schools had already jumped on board with an offer but recently, Williams announced his first Division I offer from Navy.  We caught up with the electric guard to talk more about his development and big summer, as well as his thoughts and what the coaches said from Navy. Check out our latest 1-on-1.

Phenom: How did everything go this summer for you?
Williams: This summer has personally been one of my best summers when it comes to interest and offers from different schools.  I feel like my game expanded a lot compared to past summers and I showed that by the different aspects that I can affect the game. I also put in a lot of work in the gym this summer.

Phenom: How has your game grown over the last year? And how has your confidence been building?
Williams: I believe rebounding was what stood out the most from this past year. I showed that if asked I could be a rebounding guard despite my height disadvantage. Also getting to the front of the rim has improved. Other summers, I’ve been more of a deep threat, but I believe this year I showed how I could take contact and still finish or create opportunities for my teammates. My confidence has been building every year, but I credit that to big games I’ve played in high school and the hours me and my trainers put in every day.

Phenom: What was it like to get that offer from Navy? What did they have to say your way?
Williams: It felt great getting the offer, they gave me and my family an awesome experience going up and visiting the campus looking at what why have to offer and it’s a great campus. All the coaches basically just told me how they were intrigued by how I could do different things on the floor to help win a game, from scoring to getting teammates involved or just playing defense.

Phenom: What other schools have been showing strong interest your way?
Williams: Right now, I have been talking with Army- West Pointe, Presbyterian, Winston-Salem State, Elon, Lincoln Memorial, Hampton-Sydney, Roanoke, UNC-Asheville, and NC Wesleyan. Chowan and Mount Olive have already offered.
