There were plenty of impressive performances this past weekend at the Phenom 828 Showcase, but we would have to say that the most impressive showing was the one from 2025, Kate Sears for Watauga.  The Virginia Tech commit impressively did it all and solidified why she is a national talent who is a must-see this season.

Against East Lincoln at the Phenom 828 Showcase, Sears put on an absolute SHOW by racking up the stats and displaying her full game. On the season, she is averaging 23 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 8.6 assists for Watauga, including an impressive 39-point, 17-rebounds, 13-assist, 4-steal performance against East Lincoln.

Watching her on the court, one can’t simply be mesmerized by her impact and play on the court as it is easy to see why she is regarded as a Top 100 talent in the Class of 2025. Sears has one of the most complete games in the state, showing that she can impact the game in so many ways and does it all. Her ability to score whether it is creating and forcing the action, creating fouls, and finishing strong but also being just as dangerous with her perimeter and shot-making ability is quite impressive. She makes it look effortless at times and plays with such confidence in her ability to score and create scoring opportunities, simply taking what the defense is giving her.

But it is also her overall impact; rebounding extremely well as a guard, creating offensive opportunities with rebounds, being physical on both sides of the ball, and also showing her IQ and court awareness in finding open teammates as well. Sears showed it all and that was on fill display at the 828 Showcase. The Virginia Tech commit is looking to be something special and should be a name to learn now before she takes her game to the ACC.
