A player that has been having a strong summer and is now getting recognition from college coaches has been 2025 6’9 Julian Johnson from Providence Day.  When talking about his game, Johnson has impressed over the years as well as continues to develop, we have had this to say about his game:

“He’s a steady, reliable big man with a low-maintenance identity and quality feel on both ends of the floor. Johnson understands his identity as an interior piece and consistently plays to his strengths, as opposed to so many other post prospects who want to be labeled as a “big guard.” He finishes well around the basket, moves properly without the ball, and is capable of working the two-man game as a roller or floor-spacing option. Johnson rebounds at a consistent rate, runs the floor well in transition, and knows how to make his presence felt defensively. Going into his junior season, he should shine as the nightly leader and clear focal point for Providence Day. Johnson has only gotten better and better, so college coaches would be wise to get involved sooner than later.”

Well, that time has come as Johnson has added multiple offers as of late which include Navy, Air Force, Denver, and Howard.  Phenom Hoops spoke with Johnson about some of the latest and his thoughts on the latest schools.

Phenom: What is your excitement about the upcoming season for you and hoping to finish out strong?
Johnson: My excitement about the upcoming season is the roster and experience we have coming back to Providence Day. This should have us in contention for a state championship. We have experienced players such as Nick Hailey, Jonah Lawrence, Trajan Thompson, and Deuce Haynes who were key players to our success last year and we are happy to have them back. I am hoping to finish my senior year strong with the goal and intent to commit sometime later this fall.

Phenom: What is your focus on this season with your game and improving in areas?
Johnson: The areas I want to improve on are my perimeter shooting and gaining more weight.

Phenom: What were you wanting to show more with your game this summer?
Johnson: What I wanted to show more this summer with my game is that I can score at all three levels while being able to defend multiple positions as well.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game and how you like to operate on the floor?
Johnson: I would best describe my game as a forward with a high motor that rebounds, defends multiple positions, and runs the floor well. I like to operate on the court in the post and mid-range areas.

Phenom: How has it been getting those offers? What have the coaching staff been saying they like what you can provide for them down the road?
Johnson: It honestly has been nothing but a blessing to receive these offers. I am happy to see all the hard work put in over the last couple of years being paid off. The coaching staff likes both my versatility and athleticism and feel with additional player development that I can take my game to the next level.

Phenom: Any schools catching your attention right now that have offered? And what other schools have been expressing interest your way that have yet to offer?
Johnson: There are aspects of each school that I like. Right now I am just enjoying the process and trying to learn as much as I can about each program.  Liberty, UNC-Asheville, Western Carolina, Presbyterian, and Marshall have shown interest.

Phenom: Have any visits set up?
Johnson: I plan to schedule an official visit with The University of Denver soon.

Phenom: What are you looking for in a future program?
Johnson: I am looking for a family feel where I can develop as a person and player.
