Player: Zion Walker
Class: 2024
School: The Burlington School

2024 Zion Walker has been having a terrific season so far at The Burlington School, and schools have been taking notice of his game. Walker has seen his recruitment remain strong, as schools continue to stay strong with him.  The 2024 prospect recently made a visit this past weekend to East Carolina, and Phenom Hoops was able to catch up with him to learn how it all went and the relationship he has been able to build with that program. We discuss that and some of the latest going on his way.

Phenom: How was the visit to East Carolina'
Walker: It was really great. I love the coaching staff.

Phenom: What did you do there' How did the weekend go overall'
Walker: Got a chance to meet the new coaching staff and learned a lot about their goals, philosophy, and culture.  We talked about how I could fit into their program and the benefits they have to offer.  Toured the facility, and watched them work in a tough conference matchup against Wichita State.

Phenom: What did the staff have to say your way'
Walker: They said they are looking for players that have heart and love the game.  They said they love the fact that I give 150 percent on both ends of the court.  And I don't give up.

Phenom: Anything really stand out to you overall'
Walker: Yes, the coaches' passion and dedication to its program stood out to me.  They are truly invested in their players' well-being and their player’s development. I was impressed when they said they are more interested in gaining and developing high school players instead of seeking players from the portal.  You just don't hear that too often these days.

Phenom: Did that visit open your eyes about the program' Anyone else has been recruiting you hard'
Walker: Yes, after talking with the coaches, it made me realize that there are still some coaches out here that genuinely care about their players and their player's growth, and it is not just about winning games.  To me, I see ECU's win as not being about the score at the end of the game, but more about how the team has improved from the last game and how the team works through adversity.  As far as recruiting is concerned, I am in close contact with Mount St. Mary's, Kent State, and Radford.
