Heading back up into the state of Virginia, Phenom Hoops recently was in touch with 2024 6’4 Tey Barbour from Osbourn High School and DC Premier. The sophomore is coming off a strong high school season in which he averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game to lead his team. Ever since the start of April, Barbour has seen his recruitment start to take off as well, adding his first four offers to the table.

We spoke with Barbour more about the early success this summer along with his thoughts on earning his first few offers.

Phenom: How has everything been going as far as basketball this summer'
Barbour: The start of spring is going great.  I’ve found a great AAU team with DC Premier with great coaches, and we just started high school workouts, which are good.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game on the court'
Barbour: I’d say that I’m more of a big guard who can stretch the floor with my shooting ability and be able to put the ball on the floor and make plays for others and myself. Also, a good rebounder.

Phenom: What is your excitement about playing with DC Premier and your teammates this summer' What are you hoping to show more of'
Barbour: I’m really excited for this summer; my teammates and coaches are all great. I feel like we can make a lot of noise this summer. Also, I’m hoping to show more of my all-around game and improve on my defense. Coach Douglas, my AAU coach, has challenged me to become a great defender, so that is what I’m trying to do.

Phenom: How has everything been going as far as your recruitment'
Barbour: It’s been going great. I have been blessed to get offers from great schools and look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Phenom: You received your latest offer from George Mason. What kind of relationship have you built with them'
Barbour: I mean, it has been a good relationship.  I was greatly appreciative of them showing interest in me and offering me.

Phenom: You also received offers from Bryant, NJIT, and UMass-Lowell. What kind of relationships have you been able to build with them'
Barbour: All good relationship with all of them.

Phenom: Have any plans of visiting any of those schools'
Barbour: I haven’t been able to at all as of right now.

Phenom: Have you been receiving any interest from schools that have yet to offer'
Barbour: Yes, Coach Cater has spoken with Fordham, VCU, and Richmond.  He said Richmond is looking to have me come down in June.  I know coach has been speaking with Virginia, sending them game film.  I know he has also spoken to Merrimack and Radford and continues to do so.  He doesn’t tell me a whole lot about the teams be he keeps my mom updated.  I mainly just let my coaches take care of it because it can be a lot to handle.
