2024 Jalik Dunkley-Distant was a name that came through the Phenom Hoops platform that we personally hadn’t seen before last summer, but we got our first viewing of the 6’6 prospect at the Phenom Summer Havoc when he was with Bounce Elite.
It didn’t take long for us to recognize the talent in his game, and this was before he was starting to be recognized on a national level. His size, his length, his athleticism… they were all there then and they remain today. Dunkley-Distant had such a strong feel for the game, impacting the floor as a big guard, finding ways to get downhill and create for himself or others, as well as his ability to finish over defenders.
At that time, when we wrote about him after the event, his recruitment hadn’t taken off yet, but it was only a matter of time before programs started to catch on. And they seemingly have gotten the message, as the 2024 prospect has been adding multiple offers as of late.
We recently spoke with Dunkley-Distant about the latest, to catch up real quick on all the latest. Here is what he had to say.
Phenom: How has everything been going so far recruiting-wise for you?
Dunkley: Everything, recruiting-wise, has been great. I’m happy to see my work, effort, and dedication to this game is finally starting to pay off. It definitely gives me that boost to be the great player I am.
Phenom: How has your game improved over the last year or so? And how have you been able to show more of what you can provide on the court?
Dunkley: My game has improved tremendously. My athleticism is always something I’ve used to my advantage but in the past year, it has gotten so much more effective as I can score at all three levels. My shot is more consistent on and off the dribble, and I have grown as a leader as I am more vocal, hold my teammates accountable, and show up for them every day.
Phenom: What offers have come your way and what schools are showing interest your way?
Dunkley: I have received offers from Pittsburgh, Rhode Island, Washington State, and Syracuse. I have received interest from Arizona, Mississippi State, and the G-League.
Phenom: Have you been able to schedule any visits or anything in the future?
Dunkley: I have not yet but I do plan on setting up visits in the near future.
