Another great weekend of basketball for Phenom Hoops at the Coach Rick TOC, as we had a great opportunity to check in on a few players that we haven’t seen in a while. One of those players was 2024 7’0 Chol Machot, a player that came in last year to Winston Salem Christian but has clearly been putting in the work to take his game to another level.
Coming over to the US and making his presence at Winston-Salem Christian, one could see that this was a player that had a ton of potential but just needed time to adjust to the game. Fast-forward to today, he certainly has adjusted well and is understanding more of what he is capable of providing on the floor.
At his size, Machot can be a dominant presence on both sides of the floor. He has an incredible wingspan and covers so much space on both ends. He has put in the work to get bigger and stronger, handling more contact and finishing stronger at the rim. But he also can hurt you in a variety of other ways, especially with his ability to step out and knock down threes comfortably, and run the floor extremely well. Defensively, he can really lock down the paint for his team as a shot-blocker and on the glass. Machot has nice timing in block shots and being that second-line defense for his team around the paint.
After watching him at the event, he certainly was the talk of our scouts on his tremendous improvement, and we can only believe that his recruitment will continue to take off. Right now, he holds offers from Sam Houston State, Bethune-Cookman, San Jose State, Jacksonville State, Missouri, TCU, VCU, and High Point. But in speaking with Coach Lowe at Winston-Salem Christian, schools like Virginia Tech, Florida State, Missouri, TCU, VCU, High Point, and San Jose State have been the programs that have been making the strongest push as of late.
