A rising name in South Carolina is 2024 6’6 Braylon Barfield, as he has added another offer to his list and more schools are taking a look his way. Barfield is a player that has only gotten better and continues to make progress with his game. With his ability to be a shot-maker, a versatile prospect, and one that can make his presence felt in a variety of ways, Barfield is quickly becoming a name to take even more notice of. We recently spoke to Barfield after his showing at the Coach Rick TOC, as he broke down his progression this summer and all the latest in his recruitment.
Phenom: How has everything gone for you this summer'
Barfield: This summer really made me take the game seriously after I saw my full potential. Thank you to my AAU coach with Team 803, Coach Zy Bradford, for helping me gain confidence and always believing in me, helping me be the best I can be. About two years ago, I lost my mom due to a car accident; she is always with me while I’m performing on the court and this summer was dedicated to her. I think I really improved by showing my versatility.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game'
Barfield: I would describe my game to be like an all-around threat. I can play the 3 through 5, I can handle the ball if needed but I can also assert my dominance in the paint. I can attack off the wing and get to my shot. I’m a great defender and rebound and a very unselfish teammate.
Phenom: What are you hoping to show more this upcoming high school season'
Barfield: That I can be a leader and be the guy that they can depend on if needed. Also, how I grew as an overall player this summer.
Recruitment Update:
Phenom: You hold two offers right now from Quinnipiac and IUPWI. What have those schools been saying your way and what all do you know about each'
Barfield: Those schools have been saying they want to see me showcase my ability to shoot and they all both like my versatility and how I can stretch the defense out. What I know about both schools is that they both have belief in me with me being a 2024 guy. They both want to build a relationship with me on and off the court, so I can be a great athlete and a better person.
Phenom: What other schools have shown interest and what is the latest with them'
Barfield: Recently, I’ve heard from Presbyterian, Clemson, Yale, and South Carolina. Strongly, I’ve been in contact with Yale, as I will be going to them in August for a visit. South Carolina and Clemson have been contacting me; will be building relationships together.
Phenom: What are you hoping to check out at Yale when you visit'
Barfield: When I visit Yale, I want to learn more about their engineering program and what they have to offer academically. Basketball-wise, I want to learn more about their culture and what the atmosphere there is like.
Phenom: You made a visit to North Florida. What was that like and what kind of interest have they shown'
Barfield: That visit went well and where we stand is medium. I say medium because we are in the middle; North Florida was the first school to show interest in me and they want to see me in two different settings as in my school team. I speak with Coach Bruce often. Interest-wise, we are strongly moving forward in our relationship with each other.
