College coaches have quickly been making it known that 2024 6'11 Somto Cyril has the talent to make an impact at the next level, already as a young prospect in high school. Hamilton Heights has also been a program that has produced some big-time talent and Cyril is following right in their footsteps.
When you watch the big man in action, it isn't hard to figure that out though quickly with his blend of length, size, power, and being a difference-maker on both ends of the floor. Already holding offers from Memphis, Florida, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Tennessee State, Phenom Hoops spoke with Cyril as he talks more about his game and what to expect this upcoming season, along with his early success.
Phenom: How has everything been going this summer for you'
Cyril: It has been good; I have learned a lot. I had some great experiences and it was fun.
Phenom: How would define your game as a young big man' Who do you like to model your game after'
Cyril: For now, I'm still developing my game and I'm trying to learn as much as possible from past bigs like Shaq, Dwight Howard, and Kevin Garnett, all who dominate the paint on both ends. But, I really don't have a favorite or who I model my game after, I'm just being who I am; I just try to learn from them.
Phenom: What is your outlook and focus this upcoming season at Hamilton' What is your excitement and hope to bring more to the floor for your team'
Cyril: I'm excited because this year, I got to play with my teammates. We have built our chemistry together.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on being one of the top bigs in your class and in early rankings'
Cyril: On my ranking aspect, I'm not impressed with that but I can't control people's opinions. All I can do is get better.
Phenom: What about your early recruitment and offers, getting big offers early on from several SEC and other schools'
Cyril: On the offers, I mean it feels goo and there is something good I'm doing, so I got to keep being me and getting better.
Phenom: Was there any early offer that took you by surprise or really caught your eye'
Cyril: I knew eventually it would all come but I feel the same way on all of them; I'm grateful.
Cyril also mentioned that Kentucky has been another school that has been showing interest so far as well but that list should only continue to grow. Hamilton Heights is loaded with talent though and Cyril looks to anchor the paint. Whether it is looking to rip the rim or shatter another backboard, Cyril is showing why he is considered already as one of the top big men in the country and a rising star.
