2023 Truman Claytor has been quickly rising up the ranks here in North Carolina for the Class of 2023 and if you have watched him this season for Word of God, it is easy to see. Claytor has been that x-factor for the Holy Rams, playing a huge role in the team’s success and showing that he can be a big threat from outside. He has been catching the eyes of many programs and interest levels have continued to rise.
Phenom spoke to him about the latest, his season so far with Word of God, playing the talent around him, where he has improved, and the latest in his recruitment.
Phenom: How has it been playing at Word of God and the talent around you'
Claytor: It is great playing with the guys on our team. It only gets you better and I feel like the talent we have is special and has helped my game tremendously. And the coaches just want the best for you and see you be successful in life.
Phenom: How has it helped your game, developmental-wise'
Claytor: It has taught me more spacing and playing more off the ball, which is something new for me and just becoming a more consistent 3-point shooter. Also, just playing a role and doing whatever to help my team win.
Phenom: How has your game improved' What have you really been wanting to show more with your game this year'
Claytor: I just want to show people that I'm more than a scorer and that I can do other things besides that and just be a winner and contribute to a good team.
Phenom: Recruitment has been picking up. Overall though, how has that gone for you' What all offers do you hold'
Claytor: I have Eastern Kentucky, Radford, FIU, Coastal Carolina, and Jacksonville State. I have heard from Florida State, Eastern Michigan, East Carolina, Mercer, Western Carolina, George Washington, Rice, Charlotte, Appalachian State, ETSU, Clemson, and others.
Phenom: Picked up ones from Coastal and Jacksonville State. What did they have to say when they offered and what they liked about your game'
Claytor: They were just like, man you balled, you had a great showing the whole weekend and got two big wins and basically just congratulated me and told me I probably will go higher but they are recruitment me hard.
Phenom: With the programs that have offered, have any really been making you a big-time target for them in your eyes early on'
Claytor: I would say Coastal Carolina.
Phenom: Mentioned quite a few other schools that are showing interest. Who has been the latest in those reaching out'
Claytor: Florida State called my coach and dad.
Phenom: Do you know what they said'
Claytor: He was just like about my shooting and some of my weaknesses and how he recruited my grandfather.
Phenom: Got any visits planned or lined up'
Claytor: No sir, not yet.
