It finally felt like the season had gotten underway here in North Carolina and Phenom Hoops was on deck to check out the intriguing matchup between Combine Academy and Lincoln Charter. There were plenty of stars that were out but possibly the story of the game was what 2023 Elijah Burnett showed, clearly putting everyone on notice if you didn’t already know about him.
Burnett has been a player we have viewed on several occasions before, so we knew what he could provide on the court as a guard running the show, his length, and his ability. But he elevated his game even more on the biggest of stages. Burnett finished with an impressive stat line of 21 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, and this is what we had to say after the game:
“What an absolute show this unsigned senior put on. One of the underrated guards in the state may have had a coming-out party against one of the best teams in the country and he showed that he is ready to lead his team in a big way. Burnett did it all, showing his speed, his change of direction, his ability to create opportunities and get around defenders, and use his length to get to the paint and score but also see the floor and find his teammates. Burnett was simply sensational, as he led the way with 21 points.”
Burnett was spectacular in how he was able to operate and create, stepping up and hitting some big shots but also creating extremely well off the dribble and getting to the basket. But he also showcased his feel and vision, setting up teammates extremely well.
With his performance, Burnett clearly solidified him as a player to watch more this season and more college programs could be quickly coming his way.
