Virginia has been a target for Phenom Hoops for quite some time now and we are looking to provide readers the latest updates and spotlight more players from a very rich and talented state. One player that has caught our eyes in the Richmond area has been 2023 Davin Cosby from Benedictine.
Cosby was part of a dynamic duo with 2022 Jaden Daughtry this year, helping his team to a 21-5 overall record before falling to Bishop O'Connell in the playoffs and averaging 23 points per game. The junior guard has been off the charts this season and at 6'5 with his ability to score, he has been attracting more eyes his way.
We caught up with junior guard right before the playoffs to learn about the latest, including his newest offer that is on the table.
Phenom: How has everything been going for you this season'
Cosby Jr.: It has been good; we finished the regular season 20-4 and I've been averaging 22.7 points per game this season.
Phenom: How have you stepped up this season to help lead your team'
Cosby Jr.: I am a leader on this team, we are young so they look up to me. My coach, Matt Murrer, has trust in my decision-making on and off the court. I stepped up the most by developing my game in all aspects.
Phenom: How has everything been going with your recruitment'
Cosby Jr.: Rice has kept in touch throughout the season the most. I have also heard from Radford and Robert Morris a couple of times.
Phenom: Rice is the latest team to offer. What are your thoughts on that program and offer, now that it is on the table'
Cosby Jr.: Rice is a great program academically and on the court. Coach Pera knows how to develop pros.
Phenom: What did they have to say when they offered'
Cosby Jr.: We were getting to know each other and at the end of the call, he said 'tell your mom you got an offer.'
Phenom: You mentioned Radford and Robert Morris have been in touch. What have they been saying'
Cosby Jr.: Just checking in on how my grades are and how the high school season was going.
Phenom: What other schools have shown interest but have yet to offer'
Cosby Jr.: Loyola and Mount St. Mary's.
Phenom: Have you been able to make any visits to schools'
Cosby Jr.: No, not yet.
Phenom: Any visits coming up or schools you would like to visit'
Cosby Jr.: I'm thinking about taking an official to Rice.
