One of the premier guards in the country in the Class of 2022, LJ Thomas from Bull City Prep, recently announced his Top 6 programs that he will be focusing on. His recruitment has taken off in the last year and Thomas announced his Top 6 programs, as Memphis, NC State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Houston, and Overtime League are all on the table.
We spoke to him about each, as he broke down his thoughts on each and his timeline.
Memphis: I chose Memphis as one of my top schools because of the experience they have on their coaching staff. I think they could really help me become a better player and person on and off the court. Me and my dad have a very good relationship with Coach Penny; he’s been talking to us for a minute now.
NC State: NC State has shown a lot of support. Coach Keatts is a very cool guy and believes I can come in and make a huge impact right away. I can provide leadership, grit, toughness, and a winning mentality.
Ole Miss: Coach Kermit really lets his guards go; he is a guards coach. He and Coach Hamilton have built a great relationship with me and they believe I can come in right away and make an impact.
Georgia: Georgia is home for me. Coach Crean lets his guards play and he has coached some of the best guards like Dwayne Wade, Anthony Edwards, and Victor Oladipo. I believe Georgia’s playstyle really fits my game. I have built a good relationship with the entire staff.
Houston: Houston is a great basketball program with a great coaching staff. I have built a great relationship with Coach Sampson. They love the way I can create my own shot because they like to play in space. They also made it to the Final Four last year, which isn’t easy to do. That says a lot about their program.
Overtime: Overtime Elite is an option that I would like to keep open because a lot of good players have signed already. Even though it is a new league, I believe there is great room for an opportunity there.
When it comes to a timeline for one of the top guards around the region, Thomas says that he doesn’t have a timeline in mind as of yet and it going to start to set up some official visits soon. Right now, he just has a visit to Ole Miss set up on Sept. 18.
