2022 Lewis Duarte quickly made himself a name in North Carolina at Victory Christian, especially with his size, athleticism, and shot-making ability. He checks off a lot of boxes that make him a high priority for college coaches, which is why schools continue to come his way with offers.
Duarte has added multiple offers and it was recently announced that he would be taking a visit to South Carolina, which he took on Tuesday. We caught up with Duarte on all the latest, his relationship with the staff at South Carolina, and his excitement around the summer.
Phenom: Overall, what has been going on with you this summer, going from the high school season to now playing with Upward Stars and travel ball'
Duarte: It is different, going to AAU ball from high school. We are just trying to get better and I'm working on different things like my handles. Overall, we are just trying to get better.
Phenom: What is it like playing with the Upward Stars'
Duarte: It has been pretty good so far; it is a special group. We have a couple of new players and they all can play.
Phenom: What has been your focus or mindset on your game personally'
Duarte: I'm just trying to go out there and compete, show people what I can do as well as have fun.
Phenom: Recruitment has been picking up lately for you. Your most recent offers have been from Creighton, USC, and Rutgers. What did they have to say in general your way when they offered'
Duarte: Coaches just ask me some questions, how I make others better around me, and about my leadership.
Phenom: You took a visit to South Carolina. What is your excitement around that program'
Duarte: I was excited because the assistant coach and head coach both speak Spanish and we have some great talks.
Phenom: Outside the relationship with the staff, what else excites you about the program'
Duarte: I like how they play; they play fast and move the ball and that is something that I like to see.
Phenom: Do you have any other visits'
Duarte: Yes, I do. I do plan on taking other visits down the road.
