The Phenom Summer Havoc brought many eyes on players from college coaches and scouts, giving a chance to showcase their game.  One player that captured a few eyes was 2022 6'3 Joel Baucom from the Mint Hill Lakers, as he continued to showcase his range from all around the court but also gave people a glimpse that he is much more than just a shooter.

First thing is first, Baucom has shown in the past to be one of the better outside shooters in the state for the class of 2022.  He does a great job in getting to his spots and having the confidence to let it fly.  Baucom certainly showed that all throughout the event in Rock Hill, ultimately finishing the event 30-for-61 from three which is nearly 50 percent.  He also showed how big of a game-changer he can be with his range, going 9-for-15 from behind the arc in his last two games.

But when you watch more of his game, Baucom really opened some eyes that he is more than just a shooter; something he has wanted to show more of.  Yes, he brings a terrific threat from three but Baucom also has a terrific feel with the ball in his hands, making high IQ, unselfish decisions on the court.  He puts his team first, whether it is making the extra pass or knowing when he needs to create for himself and be more aggressive.  And that doesn't mention the energy he brings on the defensive end as well.

Baucom brings a winning pedigree and mindset to the floor, understanding what is needed from him. Yes, if he is needed to stretch the defense with his terrific outside shooting, he is happy to do so but people have to realize that he does much more than that on the court. This is why it will be interesting to see how his recruitment goes and who will get involved more.
