In the world of recruiting and college basketball, we are in a unique time with the transfer portal and everything else that has come about over the last few years. What it has done though has allowed a few seniors to remain available late which many would say could help a program at the next level. One senior that really showed and caught the eyes of our scouts at the Phenom Grassroots TOC was 2022 Dwight Canady Jr. And when you look at his resume, he simply has produced.
In four years of high school ball, Canady Jr. has only played in 100 games and averaged 20.5 points per game throughout his career, while also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals, while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 35 percent from three throughout his career.
As a senior, not only did Canady surpass the 2,000-point mark but he also averaged a career-high 26.1 points per game.
Canady Jr. has simply produced from day one and he continued to show that every time he stepped on the floor. Though he can produce offensively, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t possess a nice overall game, finding ways to be a leader, get others involved, and make an impact in a variety of other ways.
One thing is for sure… he isn’t afraid to step up for his team when needed, as this is an unsigned senior that a program could secure late and earn a nice piece for the future.
What Has Been Said:
“Canady had strong performance after strong performance, really being the go-to guy for much of the event. The combo guard did a little bit of everything, as he was able to embrace contact and get into the paint but also score from outside. He has a nice balance though to his game overall, whether it is scoring or getting others involved; he just does what is needed for his team.”
“Although there were a ton of standouts throughout the organization, Canady was as productive as anyone across the weekend. He consistently stood out as a leader, specifically through his nonstop scoring and overall ability to conduct the offensive action. Canady scored the ball from all levels, displayed playmaking instincts, and contained his assignment well defensively.”
“Canady plays with a nice balance but the combo guard continues to fill it up consistently. He sees the floor well, attacks the gaps when able, makes plays for his teammates but also can get to the basket and finish through contact. But don’t forget his ability to pull-up with his mid-range game or three, as Canady can score from multiple levels. Really shows that he can play multiple positions on the floor, especially with what his team needs him to do.”
