Farmville Central certainly has had a year to remember once again. Many may know about the success on the boy’s side but the girl’s team has had the same success, recording another 25+ win season.

A big piece of the Jaguars’ success this season was due to the play of 2022 6’2 Amiya Joyner, who was focused on one goal this year… getting back to the state championship.

“It went great,” Joyner told Phenom Hoops when asked about this season. “We had a fantastic season. My teammates and I worked hard all season long. I was focused on getting back to states and actually winning this time. My mindset was winning it all this year, making our coaches and fans proud and making history. The last time the girls won a ring at our school was 2006 and if we could’ve played and won, we would’ve made history. Last year, we fell short and everyone was hurt but I learned a lot from last season. I did accomplish what I wanted for the most part and that was with my team having chemistry and an unbreakable bond.”

Joyner has been able to expand her game, looking to not limit herself on the floor and making her a mismatch problem. She would best describe or relate her game to Elena Delle Donne for the Washington Mystics, someone that can do it all on the floor.

“I’m not just a post player,” she said.  “I can dribble, shoot, and most people my height don’t have that advantage… God blessed me with this talent.”

Only a sophomore, Joyner holds offers from North Carolina, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Clemson, with East Carolina and Pittsburgh really recruiting her hard. She also has picked up interest from NC State and UConn as well.

And being only a sophomore, that list should certainly increase possibly this summer and in the coming season. But for right now, Joyner is grateful for everything she has and continues to work hard and get better as a player.

“All of them are great schools,” she said.  “They are talking to me about how they can take my game to the next level.  It’s a great feeling to experience all of the attention from these good schools.”

There is no doubt about it though… Joyner has made her mark in the state of North Carolina with her impressive play and versatility. And with her game and ability, as well as the hard work she is putting in to get better, her recruitment will certainly be one to track throughout the years.
