Size' it is something that all college coaches are looking for. Well, there is a young prospect that could be one to watch out for in North Carolina more. 2022 6'10 Melian Martinez from Freedom Christian should be a name to monitor this summer, especially as he plays for Garner Road.
We got our first chance to watch him in a few minutes of action back in November, and his long, lengthy frame quickly grabs your attention. Though still raw at the time and building his body, you can't help but see the potential that this young man may have.
With his frame, you can easily see why he could help on the defensive side of the ball immediately, as he continues to develop his overall feel.' He has nice timing, a long wingspan, and just brings that rim-protector presence to the table.
And when speaking with Martinez, he would describe his game much the same.
'Well, I would describe my game as a very good defender,' he told Phenom Hoops.' 'I like to talk on defense to help my teammates as well as on offense, and also a good rebounder, facilitator.' I think the areas I'm improving in at Freedom are my speed and energy to go coast to coast without getting tired and also my offensive game has improved a lot.' My biggest impact though is on the defense for sure.'
This is a young man that many may not know but with an opportunity of playing on Garner Road this summer, he could quickly become a name many are familiar with.' And he is just scratching the surface.
