Concord First Assembly came into the season regarded as one of the top programs in the state and they showed just that on their way to a 35-3 overall record and a state championship. A team loaded with talent at multiple positions, 2021 Trae Benham was one of the go-to scorers.

This past season, Benham played in all 38 games and led the team in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game while also adding 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  That also included 137 made 3-pointers.

It was certainly a season to remember for the junior prospect.

“The season was amazing,” Benham said. “We had a very special group of guys that all had killer mentalities and we put winning over everything. Overall, the season was super fun. We had really good senior leadership. Everyone had a voice and we all spoke positively to each other. We are family and the guys that didn’t play as much still played a crucial role in our state championship run.”

Losing several seniors though from this past season heading into next, Benham will be counted on big time and have a chance to really show his full arsenal on the court.

“For me, I want to win more than anyone,” he told Phenom Hoops.  “I have gotten stronger and my ballhandling/ footwork has gotten better.  Next season, I want to show that I’m a complete player and win another state championship with my guys.”

After securing a championship and having his eyes on another next year, Benham’s recruitment has continued to grow as well, now securing five total offers. Lipscomb is the latest to offer while also holding offers from North Florida, Winthrop, Samford, and Trevecca Nazarene. All have mentioned that they enjoy what Benham brings to the table, especially with his range and his focus on his game.

“They have just been saying they love that I extend the defense out and love that I keep improving,” he said.  “They also like that I have a winner’s mentality and how I can score the ball.  They are hoping I can provide immediate minutes.”

So far though, he has been able to visit Lipscomb, Liberty, Belmont, Colgate, Winthrop, and Furman, with each having intriguing factors on campus that impressed him. Whether it has been visits or talking to coaches though, Benham is looking to get a better understanding of what the coaches have planned at the next level. He also wants to learn what his role could be and how he could fit into their system.

Along with the offers and visits he has taken, schools like Wofford, Penn, William & Mary, Belmont, and UNCG have all shown interest his way.

It has been a year to remember for Benham, showing his true game, securing a state title, and now his recruitment is continuing to take off.

Benham will be looking to continue his success, working hard this offseason and looking for another title run next season.
