A very intriguing prospect down in Florida, Ramses “RJ” Melendez continues to attract the eyes of scouts and college coaches. Coming in recently at No. 81 by ESPN for the 2021 class, Melendez could see his name continue to rise.

Melendez is a 6’7 prospect that averaged 18.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game and has earned multiple offers already. He brings athleticism and versatility to the floor, showcases a high IQ on the floor, and really can finish strong at the rim or display his range with his jumper, expanding as far out as the 3-point line.

When speaking to the cofounder of Central Pointe Sports Program, Coach Carlos Morales Jr., he was able to give a better perspective of what he has seen from Melendez.

“Ramses is a very versatile player,” he told Phenom Hoops. “Usually you have players that are very athletic and can’t shoot because they rely on their athletic ability or the opposite really good shooters that aren’t very athletic. He puts both of them together and is a really good athlete that can shoot the 3 at a very high level.”

“Personally, I believe his biggest strength is his IQ and the way he is constantly moving without the ball. It is hard to find such a complete player at this level and then you add the fact that he has grown to 6’7” and it makes everything even more intriguing.”

VCU, LSU, and DePaul are the most recent programs to offer Melendez, now joining schools like Florida, Oklahoma State, St. John’s, UCF, USF, FAU, FIU, Rhode Island, UMass, and Mercer.
