2020 Julian Newman has been a scoring machine and programs are taking notice early on.

It may be hard to find one of the better scoring guards for 2020 in the country than Julian Newman, an early household name by the numbers and highlight videos that have been posted.
Newman is a 5-foot-7, 140-pound guard from Downey Christian School and is coming off a freshman campaign that is hard to believe at such a young age. Newman led his team in scoring this past season for Downey Christian, averaging 28.6 points per game, 8.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game.
He has played varsity for a few years now and is already pushing some impressive marks scoring wise at such a young age (approaching the 3,000 mark in his career and over 555 made three-pointers). His numbers have continued to increase and impress from year to year, as he was named All-State SIAA as a freshman this past season. It isn’t hard to see though with 18 games topping the 30-point mark and eight games going over the 40-point mark.
Phenom Hoops spoke to his father, Jamie Newman, also coach at Downey Christian School to learn more about this talented freshman, as Julian continues to impress with his early work ethic.
“Julian hands down is the hardest worker,” he said. “There are people that say they work hard but there is no one that works like him on and off the court and it shows in the classroom and on the court.
He is a workout machine. That is what it is all about, working hard when one is not looking and when others are at home.”
When watching the highlight films and game films of Newman, there isn’t much this young man can’t do. He has some of the toughest handles, opponents have trouble showing him down, and has a fantastic change of pace. Add that to his ability to score in such unique ways, with his ability to knockdown the three ball from deep and to score attacking the rim.
With such impressive early numbers, there is no doubt that schools are coming early to check out and jump on Julian, including a few schools around the Florida area.
“Central Florida and South Florida, they are always in the gym. Miami and USC are two others.”
It seems that he has the attention early on with some big programs and Julian has already taken unofficial visits to UCF and Miami, to get a better look early on for both. UCF and USF have also dropped in, with more programs keeping an eye on the young but talented, scoring machine guard from Florida.
One thing is for sure, Newman is an early national name and will be one to remember down the road, as programs will certainly be looking to recruit this scoring machine.
