It was unfortunate about the news coming out of Wake Forest earlier this week and it seems to also take a turn on their recruiting, especially in the 2020 class.  With multiple players now reopening their recruitment (not saying Wake Forest is out of the mix), there certainly was going to be a frenzy surrounding multiple players.

One, for sure, was going to be 2020 6’11 Jaylon Gibson, who was a long-time commit to the Demon Deacons. He was going to be looked at as the future big man down low for the Deacons but decided on Monday that he would be reopening his commitment.

Schools started to express their interest early and often and why wouldn’t they? Growing from a 6’6 forward back in 2017-18 to now standing as a 6’11 prospect with incredible versatility to his game, an ability to handle and shoot the ball well, and be a difference-maker in blocking shots… there certainly was going to be a line of schools coming his way.

Gibson still has room to grow and develop into his body, which is something that could be scary to think about but it has the attention of many.  In speaking with his head coach at GRACE Christian, schools like Maryland, Iowa, South Florida, Houston, Syracuse, UNCW, Providence, Miami, Cincinnati, Louisiana, Pittsburgh, VCU, East Carolina, Texas A&M, and Louisville have all expressed some type of interest his way… and that list could continue to grow.

Gibson is a tremendous player and equally tremendous as a person. Programs down the road will be lucky to have him in his program and should make a big-time impact on the court with what he brings with his game.
