Power forward Ja’Von Benson has been a name to watch in the state of South Carolina over the years and college coaches have taken notice over the years.

Benson has been focused and determined to prove himself all summer long, growing his game in several areas and showing that he can be a dominant figure on the court. He has continued to develop his overall game, especially with all the work he has put in over the years.

“Basketball has been great so far (this year),” Benson said. “I’ve been able to grow with my high school and AAU teammates. My focus is just getting better as a player and as a human being. I’ve been looking to improve my ball-handling, motor, and playing with an edge.”

That hard work and determination have paid off in a big way this year with the offers he has been able to receive.

Benson has racked up offers from Ohio, James Madison, Indiana State, Morehead State, UNCW, College of Charleston, Winthrop, NC A&T, ETSU, Murray State, Georgia Southern, Presbyterian, USC Upstate, South Carolina State, and Coker.

However, Benson may have received the biggest offer in his recruitment recently as South Carolina came knocking on his door.

“Yes sir, I did,” Benson replied when asked about receiving the offer from the Gamecocks. “I like it… It is close. We have been talking for some time (now). I like the winning tradition, coaches, and area of course (since) I don’t live far from it; I love it.”

And he is quite familiar with the school, already visiting South Carolina multiple times.

The offer from the Gamecocks could be a big-time gamechanger in Benson’s recruitment ultimately but he continues to like all schools that have offered so far. He may be able to narrow down his choices after making some future visits but nothing has been set yet.

As far as what he is looking for though in a program, it is simple.

“Family-oriented, winning tradition, and somewhere I can play and make an immediate impact.”
