Jalyn McCreary has been a name floating around the area for quite some time now. The 6’8 prospect has been one of the biggest remaining targets for schools around the area but on Monday, he announced that he would be ending his recruitment and would be joining head coach Frank Martin at South Carolina.
McCreary has had a stellar season at Legacy Charter, averaging 18.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, helping the Lions to a 34-5 overall record. Now, he will be joining 2019 prospects Trae Hannibal, Wildens Leveque, and Trey Anderson in the Gamecocks’ upcoming recruiting class.
So what does McCreary bring to the table?
This young man is simply wired to score at the highest level and expect him to earn some early playing time with his ability to handle the ball, score inside and out, and rebound. Phenom Hoop Report has seen McCreary in action quite a few times and this is what was said about the 6’8 prospect.
“The skillset that he brings on the floor is fun to watch. And you can put him in so many positions on the floor. He has great handles for his size, you can play him up top, down low, and in transition. McCreary has the ability to put it on the floor, run an offense, or take an opponent one-on-one, getting to his spots. This young man is simply wired to score in so many ways and displayed it.” – USA National Prep
“McCreary should be thought of as a Top 100 type talent. The bouncy lefty is able to handle the ball, to initiate offense and he finishes with explosion at the rim. McCreary has the upside as a defensive stopper and is a solid rebounder from the wing… More schools at that level should be sticking their noses in, McCreary is a good one.” – Porter Gaud Holiday Classic in 2018
Congrats Jalyn on the commitment and it will be exciting to see him compete in the SEC in the coming years.
