Introduction: We have written extensively about 6’1 RJ Hunt of Kerr Vance Academy in Henderson, NC. RJ has been a model “student athlete” and more importantly a first class person. He is deeply involved in his school, community and church. RJ is a well-rounded young man and simply has his priorities in order.
Comments: When most people talk about 6’ 1” PG RJ Hunt, they usually start with the words “Humble” and “Special”. RJ has made an impressionable name on and off the basketball court due to the way he carries himself. He spent the first part of his high school year at Christian Academies where he love to fellowship and perform community service. RJ has always maintained a 3.2 or better GPA while playing basketball year round. He has received many awards during his Middle and High school years. RJ work ethics in the classroom and on the court has made him a top priority for many D1 schools.
Academic Honors: RJ is currently taking some Honor classes and has a 3.4 GPA. He maintained a 3.2 throughout Middle and High School years. RJ has received numerous awards throughout his High School tenure which includes, Citizenship Award, Principal Award, and Honors to name a few. He has also spent time tutoring younger students in his spare time.

Team Honors: Led High School team to 19-6 (13-3 in conference) season record (best record in ten years). RJ helped his team to win the Chick-Fil-A Christmas tournament championship where he received tournament MVP. He has played or started on the Varsity Basketball team since entering High School. For the 2012/13-basketball season, RJ received Team MVP, All Area First Team, All Conference for Eastern Plans Independent Conference. In his 2011/12 season with Neuse Christian Academy RJ was part of the Varsity Team that won the State Championship in the NCISAA Conference 33- 4 (13-0 in conference). Outside of his High school team, RJ played with the Greensboro Aggies Elite out of Greensboro NC. He was the only player on the Aggie team that traveled more than 3 hours each practice night to workout with the Elite Team. RJ had a great first season with the Aggies helping to led them to a Championship at the “Myrtle Beach Big Shots Tournament” at Myrtle Beach SC and finishing 10th teams at the AAU DI Nations in Orlando FL.
Evaluation: RJ has really worked on his physical development over the past three years. He stands at 6’1” 170 in his shoes and often has to defend bigger guards in the backcourt. He has consistently added on weight; muscle mass, and increased speed to overcome this adversity. RJ has one of the best shooting forms in North Carolina and can flat-out knock down the three pointers consistently. He loves the pick-roll move with the post player and knows how to capitalize on defenders when caught in this situation. RJ has been a high percentage free throw shooter, always averaging above 90% in this basketball tenure. He has a high IQ for the game and his position. But he is willing to play whatever position needed to help his team win. RJ prides himself on playing the game the right way. He believes that fundamentals beat flashy playing any day. RJ is any coaches dream player. He willingly listens and then executes to make his team successful. He asks questions to help make his teammates better. RJ likes to pattern his game after Derrick Rose, but insist that he has his own style. His recruiting interest has really started to pick up over the last few months. Many Coaches, Recruiters, and Scouts are starting to refer to RJ as the “Cerebral Assassin” on the basketball court. He has a way of analyzing his opponents and slowly picking them off with his court IQ, Deep Shooting Skills and First Step Attack to the rim. RJ has the work ethic and desires to play at the highest level in DI basketball.
Personal: RJ has committed his relationship to Christ and to being the best person he can be. He really enjoys helping others, especially kids during camps or training sessions. He has also volunteered to play in Charity Events to boost sales to help outreach programs. RJ is the older of two children. His sister Tiler is two years younger and they really enjoy playing basketball together. His father Randolph Hunt, Sr. has coached recreation and AAU basketball for more than 10 years. His mother Danielle played High School Basketball and often assists as the AAU basketball coordinator.
